The WiFi signal is slower in certain areas of my property

Some customers may experience internal issues effecting the speed of their internet within the property. Internal issues are more common than you think, you may experience this if you have thick interior walls, a large property, too many devices connected to the Wi-Fi, or due to the router location. Below are some ways you can improve the speed of your internet and Wi-Fi setup:

1. Using Home plugs/boosters or powerline adapters are one way to improve your internal set up within your property. Home plugs or boosters, help spread the Wi-Fi evenly throughout the property and can be beneficial to customers with thick interior walls or a large property.

2. Powering off devices which aren’t in use but are connected to the Wi-Fi can also help, as many devices such as printers or game consoles can run in the background and cause interference.

3. If you have a dual band router switch between the 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi range (More information can be found on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi range article) Remember the 2.4GHz has a longer range so will work best further away from the router.

4. Check what WiFi channel that you router is currently set on and amend this to a better suited channel (More information can be found on the WiFi channels article)

5. Move your WiFi router or adjust the antennas. The location of the WiFi router is key. The signal is sent through the antennas, therefore you should point them in the direction you want the WiFi signal to go. Your WiFi router should not be kept behind household objects or in a cupboard.

6. Hardwire devices to the ethernet ports in the back of your router. Connect your devices using an ethernet cable directly to the router to avoid any WiFi interference. Or use a powerline adapter.
